IT'S official: One of the world's most beautiful couples, Irina Shayk and Cristiano Ronaldo, have split after five years together.

"We can confirm Irina Shayk has ended her relationship to Cristiano Ronaldo of five years. She has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship," Shayk's rep said. "Any negative rumours with regards to Irina and the Ronaldo family are completely false and have not been a factor in the cause of the split."

The comments come after Portuguese newspaper Coreio de Manhana reported Ronaldo dumped Shayk because she refused to attend his mother's 60th birthday party.

"Cristiano wanted to surprise his mum and as he spent Christmas with Irina in Dubai, he had planned to be with his mum on her birthday, but Irina didn't want to go," a source told the paper.

"They had such a big row that he ended up spending New Year's Eve alone with his son. Irina mouthed off about Dolores and Ronaldo took sides with him mum. It was the straw that broke the camel's back because they had hadn't been getting on well in the last few months."

The source continued: "Dolores thinks Irina wasn't the right woman for Ronaldo's son. She wanted someone who would, in the future, assume the role of mum for Cristiano Jr. That wasn't a priority for Irina."

Rumours had been swirling that the couple was in crisis after the Real Madrid star failed to thank Shayk when he accepted the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or award.

The supermodel didn't attend the star-studded awards ceremony, and also stopped following Ronaldo on Twitter.

Instead, the Russian-born model ventured to a mysterious tropical location for her 29th birthday, treating fans to some racy bikini shots.
