THE NEW look Sydney Motorsport SuperTest proved a success with a record crowd turning up to the season-opening event and leading driver's applauding the new two-day format that included a 25 car Sunday shootout.
Extended from just a day of testing last year, the all new event called the "SuperTest'' concluded with a race weekend like shootout that helped attract a record crowd of 27,223 over the weekend.
With free entry to the track formerly known as Eastern Creek, fans embraced the official start to the V8 season that allowed them to get a close up look at the all-new liveries with a 90 minute grid walk.
Garth Tander said the extended weekend was a coup for the drivers with more time in the cars before the first race of the season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
"I think it all worked really well,'' said the Holden Racing Team driver.
"It is great. Having the shootout really added to the weekend and I think we should chuck out two or three cars to make it even more interesting.
"It is a good idea and great for the people that come out here. It was a really hot day and good we could put on a show for the people that came out to the circuit and also those that watched at home. It was all a bit different and we got to see a lot of blokes in a shootout
that would not normally get a run.
"I think this weekend is good for everyone involved and good practice to get us going for Clipsal in a couple of weeks time.''
A sweltering day in Sydney's West made for difficult conditions with the field struggling to come to terms with a scorching hot track.
